Jayapura, Jubi – As many as 24 Indonesian workers who had been deported from Vanimo, Papua New Guinea (PNG) to Jayapura on Saturday returned to PNG to work in Bewani, Sandaun Province.
The Indonesian consul in Vanimo, Elmar Lunis Lubis, last week, confirmed that the the 24 migrant workers along with 112 colleagues had been deported because they did not have employment documents.
As a result, they were deported via Jayapura, but after completing their documents, the 24 workers were able return to work at palm oil plantations.
“The workers are working at palm oil plantation in Bewani which is located on the border between Indonesia and PNG,” Lunis Lubis added.
He said 112 migrant workers were still in Jayapura to complete their documents. Once the documents are completed, they are expected to return for work at the company.
Lubis said there were about 900 Indonesians working in various sectors including oil palm plantation companies in Vanimo. (*/ Tina)
