Jayapura, Jubi – Department of Women Empowerment and Child Protection and Family Planning (DP3AKB) in Jayapura City, found violence against children has reached 25 cases until the end of August 2017. The data consist of sexual violence more than other physical violence.
“Society must be sensitive and should protect children from perpetrators of violence. Sexual violence against children had happen more because the influence of alcohol,” said the Head of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection and Family Planning Office (DP3AKB) Jayapura, Betty Pui, Tuesday (October 10).
According to Betty, the perpetrators are affected by alcoholic drinks that drive them to sexually abused minors. “So is another case of violence,” Betty added.
From these 25 cases there is one family who asked the case to be settled in kinship then gave it to Jayapura Police and processed by law.
DP3AKB together with Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) hold a joint appeal to the community in Jayapura City, to prevent violence against children.
“We appealed to the public to report to our office if somebody knew information about violence against children. Or to report it to the Women and Child Protection Unit (PPA) in Jayapura Police unit,” Betty explained.
Head of the Kanap Protection Center for Women and Children of Jayapura City Police, Irene Aronggear said during the year of 2017 they had handle the typical rape, obscenity, and adultery, toward adults and children in the city of Jayapura.
Irene said the data showed that victims are vary from children to adults, including college students.
“There are many underage victims because the perpetrators usually offered ‘presents’ or other promises to the victims,” said Irene.
The unit is also handles cases of rape that occurred based on persuasion and violence such as punches, threats using sharp tools, ect.(tabloidjubi.com/Zely)
