Jayapura, Jubi – The Agency for Border and Foreign Cooperation (BPKLN) of Papua province will verify population data in the seven villages near the border between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
“We estimate the residents in seven villages have been living in the border areas of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea for almost five years, and they consists of about 100 families,” said BKPLN head Suzana Wanggai in Jayapura, on Tuesday (30 / 6/2015).
According to her, there is one village in Merauke regency and six other villages are located in Digoel.
“The findings of the seven villages in the border region originated from TNI members report to the provincial government, so that eventually we began to check its existence,” he said.
It will be known which ones are Indonesian citizens and citizens of Papua New Guinea if If all residents have been verified. The Department of Population and Civil Registry then may issue citizenship documents.
“The residents in seven villages are already mingled and mixed since there is husband who is Indonesia citizen and wife is PNG citizenship. So, their citizenship is unclear,” she said again.
This condition will be handled seriously in order to ease Papua government and Papua New Guinea to conduct verification in all these locations.
The villages are Mutimangge,Hugo, Deto, Digo, Bankim and Asikis villages located in Jair district, Digoel regency, while Rawa Biru village is in Merauke regency.
Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security, Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno some time ago received a report from the Commander of Korem 174 / AVT, there are several villages were recently discovered in the border area between Indonesia and PNG.
