Sentani, 30/6 (Jubi) – An academic has expressed concerns about the proliferation of master and doctorate degrees among Papuans who supposedly underwent long distance learning.
“Long distance classes are foolish in Papua. People can easily buy a diploma and feel proud of the title. The question is what they got it?,” said the head of Walter Post Theological School, Marcus Iyai.
The Papua government should take action to evaluate long distance education.
“How is it possible, lecturers who are from Jakarta come to Papua, give the lecture for two weeks and then people receive their master or doctorate degrees? ” he asked with exasperation.
“The Ministry of Religious Affairs has banned theological long distance learning but I do not about other colleges. Is this cheap education? ” he said.
A SMTK principle, Pastor Andres Monim, also shared Iyai views.
“Master and Doctorate degrees are hunted especially by the civil servants for the promotion process, and salaries. This is very unfortunate. The government must remove this educational model,” he said. (Jubi / Albert/ Tina)
