Manokwari, Jubi – A team of investigators from the Fakfak District Attorney (DA), West Papua, searched a number of documents in the Fakfak General Election Commission (KPU) Treasurer’s room on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

The DA managed to confiscate 50 documents related to the accountability report of the Regional Grant Fund to the KPU in the 2020 Regional Head Election.

“The grants given to the KPU are around Rp 40 billion. There are indications of corruption so we searched the treasurer’s room and the media center of the Fakfak KPU earlier,” said Pirly M. Momongan, Head of Intelligence at the Fakfak DA when contacted by telephone.

He said the search was carried out in order to collect evidence to determine the suspect in the alleged corruption case.

In addition, the DA team, according to Pirly, summoned and questioned the Fakfak KPU Treasurer yesterday.

“We will summon all parties for investigation, including the KPU commissioner,” he said.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the Fakfak KPU, Mohamad Iksan Payapo, when contacted separately, confirmed that the DA team had visited and conducted a search at the Fakfak KPU office.

“It is true. A team from the Fakfak District Attorney’s office came and conducted a search, then confiscated about 50 documents,” said Iksan.

He said the KPU upheld the principle of law by allowing the investigative team to carry out their duties. However, Iksan is of the opinion that DA officers should wait for the results of the audit by the Fakfak Government Internal Supervisory Apparatus (APIP) team first before requesting documents.

Recently, the Fakfak DA has progressed from gathering evidence to an investigation in the alleged corruption case of Fakfak KPU. (*)
