Jayapura, 8/5 (Jubi) – The Papua Police said a marijuana syndicate from Papua New Guinea often exchanged their products with the firearms from Ambon for a transaction around six hundred thousand rupiah.
“This inter-state syndicate often used the route of Jayapura, Serui, Sorong to Ambon and Makassar,” the Director of Narcotics Crime and Investigation Department, the Commissionaire Senior Police Tornagogo Sihombing told in the press conference on Thursday (8/5).
In the last operation on 2 May, his department found an home-made gun, 96 bullets and 7.2 Kg of dried marijuana which had been intended to be distributed within and outside Papua.
He further said the bullets has been rusty but can still be used. The bullets and firearm were allegedly used in the riots of Ambon.
“This marijuana syndicate was also involving three Jayapura residents to support their operations. We believe there are a lot of its members who have not yet been arrested,” he said.
He further said a PNG citizen identified with initial R is a marijuana dealer in Papua New Guinea. The marijuana came to Papua through Vanimo, and sometimes the dealers conducted transactions in Sorong sea near Ambon. Based on the investigation, the dealers have guns to protect themselves in doing the transaction. “Because in PNG there’s a lot of the brutal gangsters and it’s considered dangerous to them,” he said.
