Jayapura, Jubi – Threats of an open war allegedly made by OPM leaders Enden Wanimbo and Puron Wenda against security forces and non-indigenous civilians were a hoax, Papuan independence activist Filep Karma said.

“We have to be careful. Because it’s a hoax blown up by media. We don’t know what is the purpose and who’s behind this,” Karma, the Papuan figure who is serving 15 years in prison for raising the morning flag star in 2004, told Jubi on Monday (25/5/2015).

He further asked Papuans to carefully verify the veracity of news about Papua.
“We have to learn to identify who’s the journalist and who’s the agitator,” said Karma who recently refused to his exemption from the Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Last week, several media reported the rebel group leaders Puron Wenda and Enden Wanimbo warned an open war against the Police and Military and Non-Papuans as well. It pushed the security forces in Papua to response it. The day after these reportages, the Papua Police Spokesperson Senior Commissionaire Patrige Renwarin said the Police Chief has instructed the Police Offices under its territory to be alert and vigilant. “They often threated us but we never took any repressive steps to respond it, we just did the anticipatory and preventive acts. We analyze how serious it is, but it’s obviously to make people feel unsecured,” Patrice Renwarin told reporters at Papua Police Headquarters on Friday (22/2/2015).

However, the Indonesian Military Commander General Moeldoko does not give any instruction to respond the threat of terror from the rebel group. Based on Jubi’s record, when the Major General Christian Zebua served as the Cenderawasih XVII Regional Military Commander, he admitted to know the location of rebel group’s basecamp of Enden Wanimbo and Puron Wenda.
“I know where the OPM (Free Papua Movement) is and their weaponry support as well. If I wanted it could be dismissed in one shot,” Major General Christian Zebua said in the mid of September 2014. (Victor Mambor/rom)
