Jayapura, Jubi – Spokesperson for the Governor of Papua M Rifai Darus said that Governor Lukas Enembe is ready to undergo the legal process related to the allegation of him receiving a gratuity, the case of which is handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). However, Enembe also wants the legal process to run accordingly, wherein Enembe’s rights as a citizen are properly fulfilled.

“He said he was in Jayapura. He is not going anywhere, and is ready to undergo the legal process,” Rifai said in Jayapura City on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

According to Rifai, Enembe, who could not seek treatment abroad because he was debarred by the KPK was finally treated by a team of family doctors. Rifai said Enembe had not been able to walk freely because his legs were swollen.

“Currently the Governor is in his private house in Koya, Muaratami District, Jayapura City. The house is guarded by the community that supports him. The number of people is quite large, even last night the number reached thousands of people. The Governor requested some of them to return to their homes,” he said.

Rifai said Enembe’s supporters arrived after learning the news that the KPK named the Governor a graft suspect.

Rifai emphasized that the Governor of Papua, just like any other citizen, has the right to live and defend his life, as regulated in Article 28A of the 1945 Constitution.

“That is what makes the Governor consider the ongoing legal process shows a political struggle. The Governor reminded everyone not to politicize the situation, especially because the people always follow and see the developments,” Rifai said.

Rifai said Enembe considered he was criminalized in the alleged graft case. “The Governor said that what happened to him was criminalization. That’s why he has asked the legal counsel for help,” he said. (*)
