Jayapura, Jubi – A disturbing case involving the stabbing and alleged sexual assault of two housewives, identified as AK and IS, has been reported to the Papua Legal Aid Institute (LBH Papua) in Jayapura City on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. The violence led to the death of AK, while IS remains in a coma.
The victims’ families sought assistance from LBH Papua in handling this incident. The report was filed by a relative of the victims, Agus Mohi, who, accompanied by a group of students from Yahukimo.
They expressed their outrage over the “barbaric and inhumane” nature of the attack. The victims’ families called for LBH Papua’s support in overseeing the case and urged the authorities to swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The attacks on these two housewives occurred on separate occasions but within a close timeframe, on October 11, 2023. AK was assaulted while tending to her garden in the morning. She died of multiple stab wounds.
IS, on the other hand, was attacked at Kilo 5 in Dekai while walking with her 6-year-old son. Her son managed to escape and seek help after witnessing the assault on his mother. IS’s family promptly reported the incident to the Yahukimo Police, leading to the discovery of IS in a severely injured state with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to Dekai Regional General Hospital (RSUD) and is currently undergoing treatment while in a coma.
Wahyu Heluka, the coordinator of displaced people in Dekai, emphasized the inhumanity of the attacks against these victims, expressing the deep fear that this incident has instilled in many residents who had sought refuge in Dekai. Heluka called for the swift arrest of the perpetrators and the imposition of appropriate legal consequences.
