Jayapura, Jubi – Papua Governor Lukas Enembe was brought by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators from the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital to the KPK Building in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon, January 12, 2023. Allegedly, Enembe was brought to the KPK Building to undergo examination related to the alleged case of him receiving bribes. However, there has been no official statement about the reason why investigators brought Enembe to the KPK Building.
Enembe arrived at the KPK Building on Thursday at 5.10 p.m. Jakarta time, or 7.10 p.m. Papua time. A number of police officers armed with long-barreled firearms were seen escorting Lukas Enembe.
When he got out of the car, Enembe was seen wearing a red Papuan batik shirt inside the orange KPK vest. Enembe, who also wore dark pants and red shoes, was immediately placed in a wheelchair.
A number of officers then pushed Enembe’s wheelchair into the KPK building. Until this news was revealed, no official statement was obtained from the KPK or Enembe’s legal team about the purpose of investigators bringing Enembe to the KPK Building on Thursday.
According to the legal team’s representative, Petrus Bala Pattyona, his party could not confirm the KPK’s purpose in bringing Enembe to the KPK Building because until Thursday afternoon, KPK investigators had not allowed the legal team to meet Lukas Enembe, who had been named by the KPK as a suspect in receiving gratuities worth Rp 1 billion (USD 64,000).
Previously, on Wednesday, KPK chairman Firli Bahuri said his party continued to explore Lukas Enembe’s case. “With his position as Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe allegedly played an active role in the procurement of infrastructure projects at the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office of the Papua Provincial Government and won certain companies, including RL’s company, TBP,” said Firli.
The alleged bribery, Firli explained, involved Rijatono Lakka (RL) as the director of PT Tabi Bangun Papua or TBP. TBP is the implementing contractor for a number of multi-year contract projects of the Papua Provincial Government.
A number of projects questioned by the KPK are projects for the 2019-2021 fiscal year, including the Entrop-Hamadi road improvement worth Rp 14.8 billion, the rehabilitation of infrastructure supporting integrated early childhood education worth Rp 13.3 billion, and the AURI outdoor shooting arena worth Rp 12.9 billion.
