Merauke, Jubi – Thirty members of Merauke House of Representative (DPRD Merauke) said they are willing to get salary cut to help cope with the coronavirus pandemic. They also donated two tons of rice and cash to people who impacted by the pandemic.

“The salary deduction is a voluntary act. It was done based on the agreement (of all parliament members) and without force,” said the Deputy-Chairman of DPRD Merauke Dominikus Ulukyanan to Jubi by phone on Wednesday (1/4/2020).

The donation then handed over to the COVID-19 Task Force Post at Merauke Regent Office. According to Ulukyanan, many people are now struggling to fulfil their basic necessity during the crisis of COVID-19 pandemic.

“Because of social activities restriction, many people are facing difficulties to fulfil their basic necessity, while their food supplies are running low,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Regional Government of Merauke has arranged food packages to people affected by COVID-19. The free food package contains rice, instant noodles, chicken eggs, and cooking oil for a week consumption.

“The package will distribute to beneficiaries in some locations immediately. The beneficiaries are those with identity and family cards,” said Regent Frederikus Gebze, yesterday. (*)
