Jubi TV-The Investigating Prosecutor’s Team of the Directorate of Gross Human Rights Violations of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has named IS a suspect in the Bloody Paniai alleged human rights violation that occurred in Papua in 2014.
“The Investigating Prosecutor’s Team of the AGO has named one suspect, namely IS,” said Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Center Ketut Sumedana in a written statement received by Jubi TV on Friday, April 1, 2022.
The AGO team managed to gather evidence in accordance with Article 183 jo. 184 of the Criminal Law Procedures to prove the gross rights violations in Paniai in the form of murder and persecution as stipulated in Article 9 Letters a and h jo. Article 7 Letter b of Law No. 26/2000 on Human Rights Court.
Gross human rights violations occur at the absence of effective control from military commanders, who do not prevent or stop the actions of their troops and do not hand over the perpetrators to the competent authorities for investigations, as referred to in Article 42 Paragraph (1) of the Human Rights Court Law.
The Bloody Paniai incident resulted in four people died and 21 injured, Sumadana said. The perpetrators will be charged with Article 42 Paragraph (1) jo. Article 9 Letter a jo. Article 7 Letter b of Human Rights Court Law and Article 40 jo. Article 9 Letter h jo. Article 7 Letter b of the same law.
As of today, as many as 50 witnesses have been examined regarding the Paniai case, comprising seven civilians, 18 police, 25 TNI (Indonesian Military), and six experts. (*)
