Jayapura, Jubi – Personal Physician to the Governor of Papua Anthon Tony Mote said that the Governor, Lukas Enembe, was still sick. Mote, who is the director of Jayapura Regional General Hospital, said Enembe needed serious health treatment.

Lukas Enembe was scheduled to leave for treatment in Singapore on Monday, September 12, 2022. However, Enembe could not go to Singapore as he was debarred by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after being named as a suspect in receiving gratuities.

Following the cancellation of his trip abroad to seek medication, Enembe’s health is handled by a team of doctors led by Anthon Mote. Mote said Enembe was heavily distressed, resulting in adverse health effects, including swelling of his legs which made him unable to walk freely.

“In the last six months, the Governor has experienced several types of diseases such as stroke, diabetes, heart, hypertension and kidney complications. The Governor of Papua needs serious health treatment,” Mote said in Jayapura City on Wednesday.

Mote asked the KPK to allow Enembe to seek treatment at an overseas hospital as it was his regular health control schedule. “We ask the KPK to fulfill his right to get health treatment from Singapore because [his condition] is very worrying,” he said.

At the same time, spokesperson for the Governor of Papua M Rifai Darus confirmed that Enembe had not recovered. “We have seen firsthand the condition of the Governor who is currently at his private residence in Koya. Today he is still getting a health check from a team of doctors, his leg is still swollen,” Rifai said on Wednesday night. (*)
