Jayapura, Jubi – The Papua Police found several new facts in the murder and mutilation of four Nduga residents in Mimika Regency after a reenactment of the case on September 3, 2022.
Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Papua Police Sr. Comr. Faizal Ramadhani said in Jayapura City on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, that the reconstruction gave information about the murder planning and the number of perpetrators involved.
“The planning took place on August 20, 2022, or two days before the murder and was carried out in the garden area of Settlement Unit 1. It involved 12 people including eight Indonesian Military [TNI] members, but two soldiers did not join the execution due to picket duties,” said Faizal.
According to Faizal, the two soldiers received Rp 2 million respectively of the Rp 250 million robbed from the victims.
“There is a difference in the amount of money received by those who participated in planning and those who carried out the murders as well. Two TNI personnel received Rp 2 million because they only participated in the planning. The others received Rp 22 million. They plan to save the rest of the money for something,” he said.
Faizal said his party could not confirm yet whether the perpetrators had planned to mutilate the victims from the start. However, he confirmed that the perpetrators had made a scenario to eliminate evidence.
“What we know so far is that the murder is premeditated. Before getting to the mutilation scene, they threw away some evidence into the trash,” he said.
Chief of XVII/Cenderawasih Military Regional Command Maj. Gen. Saleh Mustafa confirmed that in addition to the six TNI soldiers who have been named as suspects, two more soldiers of the Raider/20 Ima Jaya Keramo Infantry Brigade were also questioned in the case. However, until now both of them are still examined as witnesses. (*)
