Timika , 12/3 ( Jubi ) – Papua Province finally won the bid to host the 2020 National Games after winning most votes at the National Sports Committee (KONI) plenary meeting in Jakarta.
Papua secured 66 votes, followed by Aceh and Bali with 46 votes, Central Java with 28 and South Sulawesi with 23.
The government had the final say on which province to pick among the three provinces that won the most votes – Papua, Bali and Aceh – and it opted for Papua.
One member of Papua Sports Committee ( KONI Papua), Gustaf Pui explained KONI Papua held a meeting for several days before attending the National Sports Committee planary meeting in Jakarta.
” We are so proud to see the results of the vote. This is due to the support of all sections of society, particularly the people of Papua ,” Pui told tabloidjubi.com via cellphone in Jakarta at 02.00 am on Wednesday (12/3).
Secretary of the Papua Sports Committee (KONI) Yusuf Yambeyabdi said, Papua had received written support from 23 provinces and 23 KONI branches.
Yusuf Pui who is also chairman of the Papua Campaign for 2020 National Games said he was very grateful to the people of Papua for all the support and prayer.
He added KONI Papua will continue to ensure the readiness of Papua as a host.
“The games will be held in several cities such as in Jayapura, Merauke , Biak , Timika and Wamena , ” he said.
