Wamena, 7/5 (Jubi) – Persiwa Wamena beat Persiwon Wondama 1-0 in the First Division competition at Wamena Stadium on Wednesday (7/5).
Persiwa were determined to win the game since the kick-off, with “the mountain storm” mounting attacks on Persiwon. The offensive proved effective and in the 11th minute Persiwa toook the lead thanks to a goal by Fransiskus Mumpo.
Persiwa intensified the attacking despite leading with one goal. In the 21st minute, Persiwa’s striker Sengbah Kennedy failed to convert a penalty kick.
At the second half, both teams gave their efforts to win the match by doing the counter-attack to make both have working hard to finalize the game. However, the final result of the match was remaining the same. The second half was ended with the score 1-0 for Persiwa.
With this result, Persiwa Wamena is currently in the second position of the Group 8 on the Prime Division after Persiwon with 10 points.
After the match, the Persiwon Wondama Coach Budi Santoso admitted both teams had equal quality, only the Persiwon’s philosophy of the game was different, but the victory is belong to Persiwa and it’s normal in a football game.
“Persiwa is a great team who had experience to compete in the Indonesian Super League Competition, while our team has just promoted to the prime division and we only had Alex Robinson as the experienced player among our young players. He played to motivate other players. And we were proud of our game,” he said.
Meanwhile, Persiwa Wamena Coach Mahmud Diaono said the final result should be appreciated, though his team was failed to use the opportunities that only resulted one goal.
“We always created a lot of opportunities in every games. Though I have advised the players to be focus but they only could make one goal, however it should be appreciated,” he said. (Jubi/Islami)
