Police arrest KNPB Chairman for treason

Jayapura, Jubi – Director of Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Papua Emanuel Gobay stated the General Chairman of KNPB Agus Kossay arrested by the Papua Police on charges of treason and incitement.

He said Kossay and another KNPB activist got arrested on Tuesday (18/9/2019) in Hawai, Sentani, Jayapura Regency. “He is charged under Article 106 for treason and Article 160 for incitement. I am trying to find out the name of another activist who arrested with him”, told Gobay to Jubi on Wednesday (18/9/2019).

Kossay and his colleague, according to him, are now under police’s examination at Papua Mobile Brigade Headquarter in Kotaraja, Jayapura.

Moreover, Gobay said LBH Papua along with other institutions that are members of the Coalition of Human Rights Lawyers of Papua would assist Kossay in his legal process.

“Besides LBH Papua, PAHAM (the Association of Human Rights Papua), ALDP (the Democracy Alliance for Papua), and PBH (the Legal Aid Association) Cenderawasih are here to assist,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Papua Police Chief Rudolf Alberth Rodja stated that Agus Kossay had been in the police’s wanted list before his arrest. He said that Kosay got arrested with a KNPB activist named Dony Itlay. At the time of arrest, Itlay was riding a motorcycle with Kossay.

“We are still developing the enforcement law process on the anarchist demonstration in Jayapura. Whoever responsible for this action must pay their consequences,” he told the reporter. (*)
