Jayapura, Jubi – Coordinator of the Civil Society Coalition for Law Enforcement and Human Rights in Papua Gustaf R Kawer, who is the legal representative of the families of four Nduga victims of murder and mutilation in Mimika Regency, said the families were questioned by police in Mimika’s capital of Timika on Monday, September 12, 2022.
During the examination, police asked about the daily lives of the four victims, as well as the search for the victims by their families. The examination was carried out by investigators at the Mimika Police Headquarters.
“The police have questioned the families of victims from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Papua time. The questioning was about the daily lives of the four victims. The families also testified about their purpose going to Timika, as well as the searching process until they found the victims,” Kawer said.
The murder and mutilation of four civilians from Nduga Regency occurred in Settlement Unit 1, Mimika Baru District, Mimika Regency on August 22, 2022. The four victims were Arnold Lokbere, Leman Nirigi, Irian Nirigi, and Atis Tini.
Kawer said the victim’s families also explained the stab wounds, gunshot wounds and mutilations they had found. By this, Kawer hoped the police would get the family’s version of the chronology and information, not just the suspects’ version.
“We hope that the testimony from the family can add weight to the investigation,” Kawer said.
In addition, Kawer kept checking on the progress of the police investigation into the murder and mutilation case. “We have asked the police to provide the results of the investigation. The police only provided the information on Friday last week but it was still not enough,” he said.
Kawer added that the police promised to hand over the autopsy and DNA testing results to the family on Tuesday morning. (*)
