Manokwari, Jubi – The West Papua COVID-19 Task Force recorded on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, that 31 more COVID-19 patients had recovered. The number comprises 30 people from Bintuni Bay Regency and one person from Sorong City.
Task Force spokesperson Arnold Tiniap said that with the increasing number of patients recovered, only 77 COVID-19 patients still underwent treatment in Bintuni Bay and four people in Sorong.
Tiniap said there were four new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, comprising two people from Kaimana, one person from Manokwari, and one from Sorong. Meanwhile, one person from South Sorong died of COVID-19 on the same day.
“That being said, the total COVID-19 deaths in West Papua Province is 354 since the first outbreak,” the doctor said.
Tiniap admitted that there were five regions in West Papua with no current active cases of COVID-19, namely Fakfak, Wondama Bay, Raja Ampat, Maybrat, and the Arfak Mountains.
“Out of 13 regencies and cities, five of them have not found new cases this October,” said Arnold Tiniap.
West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan, meanwhile, said the province is targeted to be free of COVID-19 by the end of 2021.
“Seeing the trend of recovering COVID-19 patients along with the findings of sloping cases in 13 regencies and cities, we believe West Papua can reduce COVID-19 cases to zero by the end of 2021,” he said. (*)
