Tomohon,10/6 (Jubi) – Rocks have been thrown at the Papuan students dormitory in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, in the latest attack targeting Papuan students there.
The attack early Tuesday shattered the glass windows at the secretariat room and main halls, causing restlessness among the occupants.
“The incident occurred when the students were sleeping, so we could not recognize the perpetrators because they ran away. The incident caused three broken window glasses but no one was hurt,” Yanuarius, a Papuan student in Tomohon told tabloidjubi.com on Tuesday, 10/6.
He said the incident happened at around 12:32 involving persons riding a motorcycle.
The Chairman of Student Dormitory Kamasan VIII Tomohon, Amandus Lengka confirmed the incident. “Papuan students in Tomohon have no conflict with the local residents. It is definitely disturbing us for us,” he told tabloidjubi.com by phone.
Lengka who is currently registered as student in Universitas Sariputra Indonesia Tomohon (Unsrit) manoring Management, expected the Provincial Government of Papua to maintain good communication with the Papuan students who studying outside of Papua, especially in Tomohon as well as some local governments to guarantee their safety and security during their studies.
The students have reported the incident to the local authority, but there is no further confirmation after the police checked the scene.
When asked for confirmation, a member of the investigation team, Rizky Rompa has not yet responded to reporter’s short message.
Earlier, there was three similar incidents happened against Papuan students in Tomohon and other cities of North Sulawesi. (Jubi/Mecky/rom)
