Jayapura, Jubi – Papua Governor Lukas Enembe invites 29 regents and mayors in Papua Province to be of one mind in maintaining the unity of the Earth of Cenderawasih (Papua).

“Irian Jaya (now Papua) used to be the parent province. However, after the division, West Papua Province was finally established. Now there is a plan to form another province, I don’t know if it will happen or not but we must safeguard and maintain Papua’s unity,” Enembe said on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

Enembe said that currently, Papua still has many unresolved problems. Recently passed Law No. 2/2021 on the Second Amendment to Law No. 21/2001 on Papua Special Autonomy has also led to many new changes, while the Papuan people have never been involved in drafting the latest bill.

“My leadership will end next year. Before I step down, I hope that I leave something good behind, both in actions and words, to become a valuable example for the future generations,” said Enembe.

He also highlighted changes in the management of the Papua Special Autonomy Fund, which is now the responsibility of regency or city governments. Enembe hoped that regents and mayors were on the same page in the mission to build Papua.

“It’s just a matter of how we align our perspectives to develop the Land of Papua. Even though we are separated by regencies and cities, remember that from Sorong to Merauke we are one,” he continued.

Along with changes in the management of the Special Autonomy Fund, Enembe asked regents and mayors to advance their regions in all fields. “The funds that we used to manage have returned to the regencies and cities. Therefore, regents or mayors must have a clear vision, do not let that opportunity be a waste,” said the Governor. (*)
