Jayapura , 13/5 ( Jubi ) – Yangon United’s coach, Erick William, said that Persipura deserves to be in the last eight of AFC Cup after trashing his side 9-2 and reminded the Black Pearls to watch out for potential opponents from West Asia.
“With quality players, Persipura deserve to be in the last eight of AFC Cup. However, their next step will not be easy as Persipura will face tough teams from West Asia for example from Iraq or Kuwait. Hopefully they can compete, ” William said on Tuesday (13/5).
In 2011, Persipura reached the quarterfinals of the same competition but were stopped by Arbil from Iraq.
Persipura coach Jacksen F Tiago boasted that Persipura’s game is on a par with other Asian clubs.
“They entered the last eight, so did we. Only we could take the advantage of the situation as the host. That’s the only difference, ” Tiago said.
He said Persipura were eager to win the competition this time and hoped that Boaz Solossa and friends would be able to defeat those teams with better preparations and enough experiences that they had.
“We should be able to get points from Iraq , Qatar , Kuwait and others. Successful or not depends on our preparations ,” he said. (Jubi / Arjuna /Tina)
