107 non-Papuans from Oksibil evacuate to Jayapura

Jayapura, Jubi – As many as 107 non-Papuan citizens who live in Oksibil City, Bintang Mountains Regency, Mountainous Papua Province, evacuated to Jayapura.

The evacuation of hundreds of residents on Friday and Saturday, January 13-14, 2023, used three aircraft, namely CN-235 and A-2307 owned by the Air Force, and the Caravan Smart Aviation PK-SNI.

“Hundreds of residents fled to Jayapura to secure themselves, given the disturbance of the West Papua National Liberation Army [TPNPB] in the Bintang Mountains Regency,” said Bintang Mountains Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Moh. Dafi Bastomi when confirmed by telephone from Jayapura, Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Bastomi said his party cooperated with the Indonesian Air Force to fly the community to Jayapura. As for residents who wish to remain in Oksibil City, the Indonesian Military (TNI) and Police and other stakeholders pledge to guarantee their security.

“With the current security disturbances, we continue to provide services and coordinate with the regional government to maintain security and order in Bintang Mountains,” he said.

When asked about the video of the TPNPB destroying the water pipes and shooting a plane in Yapimakaot Village, Serambakon District, Bastomi said his party would check about it first. “We are still checking and confirming,” he replied briefly. (*)
