Jayapura, 10/2 (Jubi/VanuatuDaily) – Prime Minister Moana Carcasses has confirmed receiving four containers of iron roofing from China as earlier claimed by the Office of the Opposition. The Office of the Opposition had claimed that four containers of iron roofing with 600 pieces in each container arrived in the country “having been forwarded by Vanuatu’s Beijing Embassy through the services of Yau, Vanuatu’s Commercial Attache in Beijing”.

But the Prime Minister has denied the contents were designated official government consignments.
He said the materials were supplied on a party-to-party basis from China to the Vanuatu Green Confederation Party.

In a statement, the Opposition said according to information it received the containers arrived and were cleared under government customs clearance in record time and that the Opposition was concerned the materials may have been granted duty exception even though they were not part of an aid project.
