Jayapura, Jubi – The Papua Police suspected the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) of attacking civilians in Nogolaid Village, Kenyam District, Nduga Regency, on Saturday, July 16, 2022. In this incident, 12 people fell victims, two of which were injured and 10 people died.
The joint security forces managed to evacuate 11 victims to Timika, the capital of Mimika Regency. Papua Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said the victims were evacuated using the Police’s Bell helicopter, a Caracal helicopter belonging to the Indonesian Air Force, and the plane of Rimbun Air.
“Two injured victims were evacuated using a Bell helicopter, three bodies were evacuated using the Rimbun Air’s plane, and the other six bodies were evacuated using the Indonesian Air Force’s Caracal helicopter. Meanwhile, one dead victim has been taken by their family to be buried in Kenyam,” said Kamal.
Papua Police director of the General Criminal Investigation Sr. Comr. Faizal Ramadhani said the attack on civilians occurred in Kenyam on Saturday at around 09.45 a.m. local time. Faizal said the attack was carried out by a TPNPB group led by Egianus Kogoya. “We are still investigating the matter, including the motive and chronology of the incident. The Cartenz Peace Team and Nduga Police have visited the crime scene,” said Faizal. (*)
