Jayapura, Jubi – Legislator of Papua, Laurenzus Kadepa criticized the attitude of Jayapura Mayor, Benhur Tomi Mano (BTM) which prohibits Papuan indigenous Mama selling Noken with Bintang Kejora (Morning Star) pattern.

Members of the House of Representatives Commission I of Papua, on government, politics, law and human rights said that his act is only to seek attention of central government and security forces, but at the expense of the livelihood of Mama-mama Papua.

“I cannot forbid him on that matter, but I suggest upholding other local regulation of alcohol, because many cases are caused by alcohol, overcome the traffic jam and flood in Jayapura City, just other (impoertant) things,” said Kadepa to Jubi, Monday (October 16).

According to him, Mama-mama who sell Noken have only small capital, while the alcohol businessman has big capital.

“Mama-mama sells Noken motifs, there are also Israeli flags, Morning Star and others, but the noken of Bintang Kejora is indeed best-selling,” he said.

He said Papuan mothers are trying to create motives, including the Morning Star, to feed their families and send their children to school.

“This is how Papuan Mama-mama make their living, according to their ability, they only make a living in a simple way, so do not limit their creativity, there are many other tasks that the mayor must complete,” he said.

The NasDem Party politician questioned why the Jayapura mayor is now banning the sale of the Morning Star noken, and why now, since the first period of his leadership in the capital of Papua Province.

“Just because there is a certain interest, the people who earn a living are sacrificed, it is to control the flowing of people from outside Papua who are not regulated and enter the city of Jayapura. The main problem in this city is not on Bintang Kejora noken sold by mama-mama,” he said.

Previously, the Mayor of Jayapura, Benhur Tomi Mano had requested Mama mama to not selling Bintang Kejora’s patterned Noken. “I ask them not to make anymore Noken Bintang Kejora. And Mama heard what I said, “said Benhur Tomi Mano after a sudden inspection in Imbi Park, last Friday (October 13).

Tomi also asked Mama-mama to remind other mothers who sell Bintang Kejora Noken.

In addition to banning the sale of Noken Bintang Kejora, Mano’s also banned the sale of dark gambling (Togel) in the market area of Mama-mama Papua. (tabloidjubi.com/Zely)
