Wamena, Jubi – Persiwa Wamena’s 0-1 defeat by PSS Sleman has reduced their chances of going through to the semifinals semi-finals of the Premier League competition.

Persiwa Wamena started to press opponents since early minutes and several chances were created by You Rudy, Sengbah Kennedy and Francis Mumpo. The opponents launched several counter attacks and managed to surprise Persiwa defense.

The first half ended 0 -0. In the second half, the hosts intensified their attacking but failed to score.

In the 50th minute Sleman goalkeeper Ali Barkah was replaced by Herman Batak due to injury, after a clash with a Persiwa player. In the 55th minute You Rudi had a goal scoring opportunity but he was tackled by Sleman player in the penalty box area.

Referee Baso Hasruni immediately pointed to the spot for Persiwa but Rudy’s kick was penalty saved by Herman Batak.

Coach Mahmudiana made several substitutions, but the visitors’ defense proved to difficult to penetrate.

In the 89th minute PSS Sleman’s midfielder, Agus Setiawan defeated goalkeeper Zul Bahra, a goal which proved to be the winner.

PSS Sleman coach Herry Kiswanto said before the game he patiently instructed his players to be defensive and rely on counterattacks.
“Our strategy was to reflect on previous game against PSIS Semarang and it is fruitful ,” he said.

Meanwhile Persiwa coach, Mahmudiana said he was disappointed with the result but very proud of players’ performance. (Islami/Tina)
