24 ELECTION COMMISSIONERS REPORTED TO PAPUA POLICE ON ELECTION VIOLATIONS

Jayapura, 17/6 (Jubi) – As many as 24 members of the General Election Commission (KPU) from several regencies in Papua have been reported to the Papua police  for alleged electoral violations.

Papua police chief Inspector General Tito Karnavian said, the public reported them to the Papua Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), which handed over the cases to the local police for criminal investigation.
“There are a total of 24 people from several regencies and we are following up on the cases,” he said on Tuesday (17/6).

The commissioners allegedly tampered with the vote count, did not hold the plenary and several other violations. “We will summon them then we proceed with the evidence. If there is enough evidence, then we will send the dossiers to prosecutors,” he said.

Separately, Director General Criminal Papua, police commissioner (Pol) Dwi Rianto said currently Papua Police are handling 13 cases of election violations.
“Five cases are handled by the General Directorate of Criminal Police and Police resort handles eight cases. Five cases of which are already to second phase, ” Rianto said.

He further said that those who are named as a suspect are five members of Tolikara Election Commission ( KPU), four members of Boven Digoel KPU, five members of Nduga Commisison and five members of Puncak Jaya Commission as well as a five-members of Yahukimo Commission. Besides that, there are also three legislative candidates who have been charged to election violations.
“Each of them are from Biak, Nabire, Yapen and Supiori. We haven’t called them because there is still a suspect in the proceedings of the Constitutional Court. The file has not been given yet since the suspect is still in Jakarta, “he said. (Jubi / Arjuna/ Tina)
