Jayapura, 1/ 4 (Jubi)- Eighty-one words in Papuan will be added to the fifth edition of the Complete Indonesian Dictionary, an academic said.

Last year 87 words proposed to be included for the fifth edition of the Big Indonesian Dictionary.
“From a total of 87 words, only 6 were rejected. So, probably in the fifth edition, there are likely to be additional 81 Papuan words,” the head of Language and Literature Studies of Papua and West Papua, Supriyanto Widodo told tabloidjubi.com on Tuesday ( 1 / 4 ).

In 2005, at least 125 well-known Papuan words were proposed for inclusion in the fourth edition.
“I do not remember all of them, but one that I still remember was the word “Meti” which has a similar meaning to the word “surut” or“ low tide”, he said.

Gerry Wally, a graduate of  anthropology from Cenderawasih University, welcomed the news, saying he hoped it would encourage the local government and people of Papua to love their own language and also together preserve it. (Albert / Jubi/ Tina)
