Jayapura, Jubi – A total of four residents of Tolikara Regency were shot at the Tolikara Police Headquarters in Mountainous Papua Province on Monday, December 19, 2022. One of them died.

Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Papua Police Sr. Comr. Faizal Ramadhani, confirmed on Monday that four Tolikara residents were shot by the police. He said the shooting was triggered by a number of residents who came to the headquarters drunk and made noise.

The residents left but a few moments later they came with more people who were also drunk. Faizal said they attacked the police station, therefore the officers did the shooting.

“There were four victims, one died with a gunshot wound. The dead victim is likely the one who was referred to Wamena Hospital,” Faizal said in Jayapura City on Monday.

Information obtained by Jubi said the four victims were Michael Bogum (gunshot wound to the right thigh, treated at Karubaga Regional Hospital), Metus Bogum (gunshot wound to the right hand and left leg, treated at Karubaga Regional Hospital), Beinus (right stomach wound and right calf, treated at Karubaga Regional Hospital), and Wilem Wununga (gunshot wound to the left thigh, referred to Wamena Regional Hospital). No confirmation has been obtained about the identity of the four victims.

It is suspected that a number of residents consumed alcoholic drinks in the Ampera area in Karubaga on Sunday. Under the influence of alcohol, they got into a dispute with the police, leading to a clash between both parties which continued on Monday.  (*)
