Police name Kalenak Murib suspect for allegedly shooting civilian

Jayapura, Jubi – The Papua Police has named Kalenak Murib, a member of the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB), a suspect in the shooting of a bank employee named Darius Julius Yumame (32) at Sinak market, Puncak Regency, Central Papua Province on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

The police said Murib was a prisoner who escaped from Abepura Prison and had carried out several shootings.

“The police managed to reveal the perpetrator based on witness testimony at the scene,” said Papua Police Criminal Investigation Director Sr. Comr. Faizal Rahmadhani on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

According to Faizal, Kalenak Murib also joined several TPNPB groups in different regions of Papua and was known as a shooting perpetrator.

Kalenak Murib has been an inmate since 2016 at Class II A Abepura Prison and escaped on July 28, 2021. At that time, he asked permission to leave the prison to visit his sick wife.

He was previously charged with Articles 338, 340 and 365 of the Criminal Code, convicted of a number of violence related to treason, and sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Kalenak Murib is also one of the main suspects in the attack and burning of Pirime Police Station in 2011. Two police officers were killed in the attack. (*)
