MSG’S VISIT ONLY TO JAKARTA AND BALI, WITHOUT PAPUA

Jayapura, Jubi (10 / 01) ( – Delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) countries reported will make a visit to Indonesia in the next few days .This visit should have done last year.

This visit is the resolution of the MSG Summit in Noumea, June 2013, decided after the West Papua National Coalition for Liberation ( WPNCL ) applied for the membership of MSG. Members of MSG countries had to postponed the discussion of the WPNCL application after Indonesia offered a visit to Jakarta and Papua to closely take a look at the issues of human rights violations in Papua, allegedly committed by Indonesia. This visit will be held between 11 to 15 January 2014. Representative of kanaki People’s Liberation Front ( FLNKS ) even reported has flown to Jakarta last night ( 9/1 ).

However, beyond of the expectations, this delegation is only invited by Government of Indonesia to visit Jakarta and Bali alone, without Papua. This triggered protests from Vanuatu, one of the member states of MSG which very concerned with the issue of Self – determination for the Papuan People these days. Deputy Prime Minister of Vanuatu are also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edward Natapei, when contacted by Jubi said that Vanuatu has sent a letter of protest to the MSG Secretariat regarding of the Indonesian government ‘s invitation . ” The invitation does not include Papua , but only Jakarta and Bali . We have asked the Chairman of the MSG, to ensure that Jakarta will add Papua on visit agenda before Monday ( 13/1-red ). ” said Natapei when contacted by Jubi on Friday morning( 10/1) .

In pre- MSG Summit meeting attended by Foreign Affairs Ministers of MSG on the island of Lifou , Loyalty Islands New Caledonia, in June 2013. Foreign Minister of Fiji , Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said MSG delegation’s visit to Indonesia is a initiative of Indonesia Government. ” We all agreed that the mission would go to Jakarta based on the invitation of Indonesian Government, then heading to West Papua this year( 2013 – ed ), depending on the date agreed with the Government of Indonesia . ” Kubuabola said at the time. Kabuabola said that the invitation has been informed since June 3, during a meeting between Prime Minister of Fiji, Voreqe Bainimarama and Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affair of Indonesia.’

The Indonesian Government, through the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , Vishnu Ward , before the plenary MSG Summit on June 21 said Indonesia’s relationship with MSG should be strengthened and improved. One way is to invite the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of MSG countries to come to Indonesia . ” To strengthen relations between Indonesia and MSG, Indonesia invited the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of MSG coming to Indonesia for exchanging experiences and providing an opportunity to see and have better understanding on the development in Indonesia, including Papua and West Papua . ” said Wisnuwardhana .

Meanwhile, Filep Karma, political prisoners in Papua asked so that in this visit, MSG also will come visiting Papua political prisoner who are currently spread out in some prisons in Papua.
“I ask, in the MSG leaders’ visit to Papua, will visit Papua political prisoners.” said Filep Karma to Jubi at Prison of Class IIA in Abepura, Jayapura, Thusday (9/1).

It meant that this visit is not only to prison of Class IIA Abepura in jayapura but also to several other prisons who have political prisons in other cities in Papua. Such as prisons that located in Biak , Nabire, Manokwari , Sorong , Wamena and Fakfak .
“I also hope, MSG is not only meet with the assigned Papuans by the Government of Indonesia, but also any Papuans who want to meet with the leaders of MSG .” said Filep Karma.

While the West Papua National Committee ( KNPB ) requested the Government of Indonesia to open widely without isolating the reality of the problem that happened in Papua . MSG Leaders should be given the freedom to meet with any Papuans to understand the problems faced
since integrated to Indonesia .
