Wamena, Jubi – An offiical from the Netherlands embassy visited Wamena, the capital of Jayawijaya Regency, on Wednesday (2/3/2014) to discuss and observe the implementation of Civilian Police Program.
The meeting between the Deputy Chairman of Political Department of the Netherlands Embassy Marthen van den Bosch and Jayawijaya Regent Wempe Wetipo was held at the Regent Office, attended by the Chairman of Jayawijaya Legislative Council, 1702 Jayawijaya District Military Commander, Jayawijaya Regional Secretary and Jayawijaya Police Chief.
“The team wants to know about the result achieved from the collaboration of the Police and community in creating peace because the issue of peace and order in society is not only the responsibility of the Police, but it is also involved the community,” said van den Bosch.
He said good communication between the Police and community was already built, thus it stimulated communal social responsibility in providing peace for all. “We did not discuss on the case by case basis but rather talked about the implementation of the civil police. The program is essentially to prevent conflicts and maintain the stability of peace. It is not for handling the conflict but how to prevent the conflict together,” he said.
Regent Wetipo said the Civilian Police is urgently needed because it could assist the Police to guard the security in the community levels, such as in the small administrative units, villages and sub-districts. Therefore, he asked the program ended in September 2016 could be extended.
“It is to ensure the sustainability of program and it might be better if we could get data from the Regional Police Office. We will give financial support on the police members recruited from the villages,” he said. Thus, people have contribution to maintain the stability of peace and order in society. (Islami/rom)
