Sentani, 22/6 ( Jubi ) – The Governor of West Papua Bram Oktovianus Atururi expressed his disappointment with the U-19 national football team for not recruiting any Papuan youth.

“I watched the team play and then found out no Papuan joined the team. Since Papua has a lot of talented football players, it’s made me upset. How could it have happened?” the governor told reporters during the Sentani Lake Festival.

He said he hoped the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) would pay attention to the representation of Papuan in the team for the future.

A football observer, Nando Fairio said said it happened because lack of communication between the PSSI Papua with the central PSSI, therefore the recruitment process was not conducted in Papua.

He said the PSSI Papua officials should improve its communication and networking with the central PSSI to grasp and follow up their agendas. ( Jubi/Albert )
