Norwegian government eyes cocoa and coffee investment in West Papua

The Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia was welcomed by Forkopimda leaders at Rendani Manokwari Airport, Monday (20/2/2023).

Manokwari, Jubi – The Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Kruger Giverin, was welcomed by Indonesian Military (TNI) and police leaders, as well as West Papua Regional Leaders Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) at Rendani Airport, during a visit to Manokwari on Monday, February 20, 2023. The Norwegian Ambassador made a two-day visit to the capital of West Papua Province.

During his visit, Giverin ensured that the Norwegian government supports a number of strategic programs in West Papua, such as the agricultural potential of cocoa and coffee in South Manokwari and the Arfak Mountains.

“We have several projects and our support is related to cocoa and coffee,” said Giverin.

The Norwegian government, Giverin said, also concerned about the development of ecotourism, forestry and health. Giverin’s visit was part of discussing ecotourism investment in West Papua by the Norwegian government.

“Looking at the natural conditions of West Papua, it is very appropriate for the Norwegian government to invest in West Papua. We look forward to cooperating,” he said.

Giveri would further discuss Investment from the Norwegian government with the Acting Governor of West Papua. In addition, he also planned to visit Southwest Papua Province. (*)
