Jayapura, 12/2 (Jubi) – The provincial government  has allocated funding of approximately Rp 150 billion in 2014 to support plan and consolidate Papua’s bid to host the National Games (PON) XX 2020, a provincial legislator said.

“The budget was already with the Regional Secretariat, and would be withdraw when it needed,” Chairman of DPR Papua’s Commission C on Sports Department, Kanius Kogoya, said on Wednesday (2/12)
Kagoya, who is also the Official of KONI (National Sport Committee) Papua, said the funds have been registered with the General Budgetary Policy (Kebijakan Umum Anggaran/KUA) of Temporary Budget Priority Ceiling (Plafon Prioritas Anggaran Sementara/PPAS).
The funds were intended for grooming young athletes for PON 2020.
“It will also be used to finance a research team from China who will conduct a feasibility study on the construction of venues or sport arenas. So the funds are also intended for preparing for PON 2016 that will take place in West Java. But it would be also a grant to KONI and it comes from other sources,” he said.
The Head of Finance and Regional Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) of Papua said: “The Provincial Government of Papua has provided the budget for 2014 because stakeholders and Papuan’s society have committed to support Papua as the host of PON 2020. Our fiscal capability allows us to organize PON 2020. We ask for support from KONI to convince the other provinces that Papua is much more prepared and ready. It has been our commitment,” he said.
