Papuan community celebrates Viktor Yeimo’s release

Jayapura, Jubi – Upon his release, Papuan rights activist convicted of treason Viktor Yeimo was warmly received by a multitude of Papuan people on the Cultural Stage of Expo Waena in Jayapura City. Thousands of Papuans came together to welcome Viktor Yeimo on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

Kamus Bayage, the chairman of the committee responsible for welcoming Viktor Yeimo’s release, expressed their intention to hold a thanksgiving ceremony in honor of Viktor Yeimo’s freedom.

Bayage also discussed the role of the Papuan People’s Front Against Racism (FRPMR), which had undertaken various protests as part of their commitment to combat racism and secure Viktor Yeimo’s release.

To celebrate Viktor Yeimo’s arrival, Papuans from the Tabi, Saireri, Lapago, and Mepago tribes residing in Jayapura City and nearby regions congregated at Expo Waena. Bayage noted that numerous resistance organizations, including the West Papua National Committee (KNPB), the Papuan Customary Council (DAP), Sonamapa, Gren Papua, and various people’s movements and student groups, all united for this occasion.

Furthermore, thousands of Papuans adorned in traditional attire representing their respective tribes in Papua gathered and showcased Papuan cultural dances such as Waita, Wisisi, Yospan, and others. Additionally, the committee planned to have a communal lunch by burning stones together later on.
