Jayapura, Jubi – The poverty rate in Papua province dropped 2.25 percent, said Governor Lukas Enembe, citing data from the local statistics bureau.

“As governor, I believe the data released by the statistical agency because there was no intervention from the government and they have their own measures, ” Enembe told reporters in Jayapura, Papua this week.

He explained, there are four policy implemented by the government in order to fight poverty including fiscal policy that helps most of all local revenues increased significantly.

Usually each district received funds around Rp500-600 billion, but it increased to Rp. 1.2 trillion.

“It is a remarkable to see how fiscal revenues is sufficient to carry out the programs,” he said.

“So it is a result of hard working of the regents. There are visible result that we can see but there is also invisble result that we can not see. The results are the accumulation of successes from hard working, “he said.

In addition, the interest and desire of Papuans to invest was quite remarkable. “The younger generation of Papua have started moving. It can be seen many Papuans take a loan from the bank, “said Enembe. (Alexander Loen/ Tina)
