Jayapura, 29/6 (Jubi) – The FIFA World Cup in Brazil is diverting Papuan people’s attention from the July 9 presidential election, Papua police chief, Inspector General Tito Karnavian said.

“We found that people are more interested in the World Cup than presidential election. Moreover, there’s little public information campaign conducted by the Election Commission, ” Tito said on Thursday (26/6).

Papua police have cooperated with religious leaders to familiarize people with the presidential election.
“Do not let people forget it.  We also urge the public to use their voting rights,” he said.

Papua Police also expects, all parties can accept any decision on electoral disputes related to the April 9 legislative election currently being heard at the Constitutional Court (MK).
“Soon, there will be a decision by the Court. Whatever the decision of the Court, we hope all elements will accept and respect it and don’t make any trouble, ” he said. (Jubi / Arjuna/ Tina)
