GAMBLING BOOKIE USUALLY BRIBES THE POLICE

Jayapura, 9/7 (Jubi) – It was not make sense if media exaggerated the case occurred at the Youteva traditional market by only blaming the illegal lottery and gambling bookies, a student from Jayawijaya said.

Based on his observation in the scene during several times, the police who were patrolling in Abepura area never been dissolved the gambling activities but asked for money instead.
“I found the fact through my conversation with the bookie at Youteva traditional market, if the police were out of cigarettes, they used to asked the bookie for money,” said Yali during the conference of Jayawijaya Student Association (HMPJ) at Asrama Nimboran, Jayapura on Tuesday (8/7).

While Alius Asso who represented the youth leaders said this meeting was urgently held because his colleagues have agreed to do the advocacy towards this case. And the first action would be taken is to prepare the chronology which would be distributed among NGOs, Churches and customary leaders to get inputs.
“This should be a concern of all civilian components in Papua. Papuans was not involved with troubles but being the victims of police’s brutality,” said Asso. (Jubi/Aprila/rom)
