Jayapura, Jubi – The fugitive suspected of attacking the Kisor Military Post, Yan Waris Sewa, was arrested on Friday, October 14, 2022. The arrest was made by a joint team consisting of West Papua Police Mobile Brigade, South Sorong Police, and Maybrat Police at 6 a.m. Papua time in Susumuk Village, Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, West Papua Province.
“The team managed to arrest one fugitive of the Kisor attack,” said spokesperson of West Papua Police Sr. Come. Adam Erwindi in a written statement received by Jubi on Sunday, October 16.
Adam explained that the suspect Yan at the time of the attack carried arrows and waited outside the post when his friends committed the murder at the Kisor Military Post. The attack on September 2, 2021 resulted in the death of four soldiers.
“The suspect is charged with Article 340 of the Criminal Code, Subsidiary Article 338 of the Criminal Code Jo Articles 55, 56 of the Criminal Code. The total fugitives arrested for the case are 11 people, some of whom have undergone criminal proceedings, out of a total of 21 attackers as a result of case development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Willem Assem from the Maybrat Humanitarian Coalition Team said the police used around 16 vehicles including barracuda cars when arresting civilians in Kisor Village, Susumuk Village, Fan Kahrio Village, and Sampika Village in Maybrat Regency.
“Mobile brigade from Sorong used about 4 barracuda cars and other cars totaling 16 vehicles. They entered the village at dawn and arrested a number of residents including women, men, eldelry, and underage children,” Willem Assem told Jubi on Saturday.
Assem explained that at least 23 residents were arrested by the police, including Yan Waris Sewa who was arrested while being seriously ill. The police also arrested residents who work at the timber company PT Bangun Kayu Irian.
“He (Yan Waris Sewa) has been sick for two months. The police later arrested employees consisting of indigenous Papuans who work at PT Bangun Kayu Irian,” he said. (*)
