Jayapura, Jubi – Two teenagers in Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua Province, identified as Daud Hagismijau and Kiko Hagismijau, were reportedly shot on Monday (29/6/2026).
The two teenagers were reportedly shot in Titigi Village, Sugapa District, while working with local residents on the construction of the St. Francis Xavier Titigi Catholic Church.
The Management of the West Papua National Liberation Army’s (TPNPB) National Commission Central Headquarters stated, based on a report from the Papua Intelligence Service (PIS), that the shooting was allegedly carried out by the military.
“Indonesian military personnel are [allegedly] responsible for conducting an operation and shooting two young men under the age of 18 on June 29, 2026, at around 12:00 noon. At the time, the two victims, along with other civilians, were working on the construction of the St. Francis Xavier Titigi Catholic Church in Titigi Village, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua,” wrote TPNPB Spokesperson Sebby Sambom in his press release on Monday night (29/6/2026).
According to the TPNPB report, the two victims sustained gunshot wounds to the leg and back of the thigh, and during the shooting, the Indonesian military immediately took control of the main access route from the center of Sugapa City, the capital of Intan Jaya Regency, to Titigi Village and onward to Puncak Regency.
“[The military] blocked the path of subsequent refugees fleeing villages in Agisiga, Hitadipa, and Sugapa Districts as a result of Indonesian military operations and bombing attacks on churches and civilian homes in Hitadipa, Sugapa, and Agisiga Districts,” said Sambom.
He said that in addition to bombarding the area using drones from the air, security forces also carried out ground operations from June 26–29, 2026 in Intan Jaya. These actions resulted in numerous public facilities being burned down and caused a mass displacement from the three districts. Residents sought refuge in the forests and in the center of Sugapa City.
The Management of the TPNPB National Commission Central Headquarters condemned the bombing attacks by Indonesian military forces, which resulted in a church being burned down and civilian homes set on fire, as well as the Indonesian military’s ground operations, which caused damage and fire to many other civilian facilities.
“We consider the shooting of two teenagers under the age of 18 while they were working on the construction of the St. Francis Xavier Titigi Catholic Church to be a form of crime against humanity.”
In addition, the use of heavy weaponry by the Indonesian military in its operations in Intan Jaya from June 26–29, 2026, is considered a form of war crime and crime against humanity that warrants serious attention from the UN and international human rights bodies.
“We also urge the UN to mandate the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council to conduct an investigation and monitor the humanitarian situation in the Land of Papua,” said Sambom.
